Kenya Safari

We just got back into LA about an hour ago.  Last time we were in a real bed, we spent most of the night listening to hippos bellowing right outside the tent most of the night.  Then "today", up at 6:00am at out "wheelin" at 6:30.  Took these pics then headed out a few more miles to see the wildebeests as they were getting ready for their river crossing in the Masai Mesa part of their migration.  Had to get back to take a short flight to Nairobi, then out to dinner where they served us crocodile and ostrich before we caught a plane to London and then to LA.   Needless to say we're ready for a quick Pizza Hut and bed, but wanted to get a couple of pics up.  I'll be putting some photo pages up on the QuiteCanyon site over the next couple of weeks.    John

Yes, they really do come this close, and they just ignore us.  (thank goodness!!)

Wow what a great week!!!!  The weather was great, while at home it was in the 100’s we had it in the 80’s and 50’s at night, great tent weather for David and April. April, you did a great job, a week in a tent!!!!! Allot of relaxing and swimming went on at our private pools below our camp site, Raymond did try to use them as a slide at one time and found it was not such a fun ride. All the dogs had a great time swimming and even Bodie, decided he would have a dip without being bothered by anyone else.

Terry earned the nickname of “Two Toe” by slicing two of his toes getting out of bed and having 7 stitches in one and 4 in the other. Had to go all the way down the hill for that, so don’t get hurt up there. It slowed him down just a bit for the rest of the week but he was still able to go on the runs and relax with the rest of us. Jack Sr went and played with the boys on the granite after dinner one night, and Raymond had to pull him back to camp. A pin in transfer case came out.  Danny and David the next morning were right to work and took it all apart and put it all back together again, and he was good to go the rest of the week.

We got up one morning early and hit the trail, with stove and breakfast with us.  When we reached the lake, Raymond broke out the stove and we all pitched in and had a great breakfast of bacon, eggs, and coffee.  Now that is breakfast on the trail!!! One day the Kennedy’s rented a boat and went on Shaver Lake. The rest of us went into town for supplies.  We found that we should visit this area a little later in the year, as some wanted to do maybe a bit of the Dousey, but it was still closed, due to about 4 feet of snow on the back side.  Oh well guys next time.  We will try again.

Vince and Linda will now be looking for a small motorcycle for Christopher in the future, he did great on Danny’s little one. It was a great week filled with wonderful food, fun, weather, beautiful scenery and friends.

The Askier Mobile- It worked great at Dinkey Creek. All ready for the next run now!

Raymond Davis- Put electric fans on the Jeep, and found that you have to run them all the time or the old 401 will heat up.  And, the motorhome still does not like the 11% grade.

Jack Sr.- Has had his transfer case all fixed and it is ready to go.  That broke at Dinkey Creek.

David Castillo - Somewhere on one of the trails at Dinkey Creek he broke an axle.  Didn't know till he got home, could have been a hassle on a few of those rocks!
