Announcements

OOPS, where did the time go?  Your web weaver got swamped with work and didn't get the September up in time, so we've got September / October combined.   (check back for more October updates!!)   Also, there was a bug in the old newsletters, for some reason the past ones didn't show up.  I fixed the 05 ones, but for some reason the Jan-May 06's still don't link.  Still checking on that.  John

joinTyler Lewis Eagle Scout Project. Well, it's officially under way.  Tyler Lewis will be making Owl Houses for Goff's for his Eagle project.  With his 18th birthday early in November it's going to be a race to get it and the other requirements completed in time.  He went to Goffs on Sept 30th to collect 100 year old barn wood donated by Dennis, and will be building the houses over the next two weekends, along with other scouts from Troop 5.  Tentative plan is to install the houses at various locations at Goffs on the weekend of October 21st.  If anyone is interested in coming out to help with the installation, you are more than welcome!  We plan to install on Saturday and Sunday, with a campout for the scouts at Goffs Saturday night.  Also, all funds donated go to the project, and any extra will be donated to Goffs fund.

Kenya Safari

Thought I'd leave this up for a bit if anyone is interested.  Last part of October the Lewis family went on their dream vacation, to Kenya. After going through several thousand photos from the trip we've put some of the better ones up on shutterfly so you can see them as a slideshow.  Just go to www.quietcanyon.shutterfly.com.  Click on the "View Photos" button below the Cheetah photo, and then click on the "View as Slideshow" button above.  It takes about 10-15 minutes to play through.  Included are lots of photos of Kenya, a lion kill of a wildebeest, and an incredible territory fight between 4 lions.  John

Yes, they really do come this close, and they just ignore us.  (thank goodness!!)

   CORVA / Truckhaven News

For those of you that don't get the CORVA newsletter or haven't read the article yet about Truckhaven, thought we would give you the good news!

The California State Parks Off Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Commission recently voted to approve the acquisition of the popular recreation area known as Truckhaven. OHMVR Trust Funds, along with funding from the federal highway funds will be used to purchase 4300 acres of lands used by off-road recreation for over 50 years.  The acquisition is expected to be final in August-September 2006.  Over the past few months there has been a lot of behind the scenes political maneuvering.  On two occasions members of the Tierra Del Sol Four Wheel Drive Club provided area tours for State Park officials and Tribal Leaders.  CORVA has been intimately involved in this issue, working to make it a beneficial transfer to OHV interests.

The above came from Raymond and Judy.  If I could add a note.  While it is great to hear that the area has been saved for OHV activities and I really appreciate all of the effort that so many people put in to get this to happen, my initial reaction was "oh no, guess we really have to find another place to ride." Why?  With the area now on the official "place to ride" map it will  soon be overrun.  We used to camp just south of S-22 because it was generally empty, and as soon as it was annexed as an OHMVR area it went from being generally open to an overrun dustbowl.  Hope I'm wrong.  John

Danny Davis- Well, Dad is shaking in his boots.  Danny has gotten the fuel injected motor for his Jeep.  Soon there will be a race up the sand hill.  Will Son be able to beat Dad?  Watch and see.  And, the on-board welder will be installed.

Raymond Davis- The electric fan is coming off.  Back to what the 401 is used to.  Also, the on-board welder will be installed soon.  The motorhome trans is now all ready for another trip, maybe not Dinkey Creek!
